It's taken months, but "Die With a Smile," the Grammy-nominated duet between Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, has finally hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song debuted at #3 in August 2024 and previously climbed as high as #2 in November. The 20 weeks the song has taken to top the chart is the longest climb since Teddy Swims' "Lose Control" took 32 weeks to hit #1 back in March of last year.
This is Gaga's sixth #1 on the Hot 100; her most recent was her 2020 duet with Ariana Grande, "Rain on Me." As for Bruno, it's his ninth #1 hit. His most recent was 2021's "Leave the Door Open" as part of Silk Sonic, his duo with Anderson .Paak.
Billboard also notes that Lady Gaga is now only the third artist to have scored multiple number ones on the Hot 100 in three distinct decades: She's had two number ones in the 2020s, two in the 2010s and two in the 2000s. Only Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson had previously accomplished this feat.
And Bruno has yet another duet in the Hot 100 top 10: "APT," a collaboration with K-Pop star ROSÉ, has jumped to #5, surpassing its previous peak of #8.
